How team chat works

Your team's own chat in Filmo: #general, channels and direct messages, two kinds of archive, and who gets notified.

The night before the Landmark Venues wedding, the warehouse finds a torn panel on one of the frame tents. Someone needs to tell sales and the crew lead, now. Many teams do that in a separate messaging app; in Filmo it happens in the team's own chat, next to the order.

The is for your team only: clients, website visitors and Campus app users never take part. It works like the messaging tools you know, with by topic and between people, and with as one more member you can .

Where it is

  • «Communication» → «Internal Chat»: the full page, with your conversations on one side and the open one on the other.
  • The «Team chat» bubble in the bottom-right corner of every page, with an unread counter. It's hidden on the «Internal Chat» page, and both show the same open conversation.
  • Your list groups «Favorites», «Channels» and «Direct messages», with an «Archived» section and a search box, «Search conversations...», by channel or person.

Kinds of conversation

KindHow it's createdWho's in itRules
«#general»Automatically, the first time someone opens the chatEveryone with access to the account, added when they open the chatIt has no administrator, so nobody can rename or archive it. Whoever leaves is back next time they open the chat
Channel«New conversation» → «New channel»Its creator, who is its administrator, and the people invited«Public» or «Private — invitation only»
Direct message«New conversation» → «New direct message»You and up to 20 more peopleNever duplicated: the same people always lead to the same conversation

Two kinds of archive

«Archive channel»«Archive»
Who does itA channel administratorAnyone, for themselves
What it doesThe channel becomes read-only for everyone: no messages, files or new membersMoves the conversation to your own «Archived» section
How to undo it«Unarchive channel»Open it from «Archived» and unarchive it. A new message doesn't bring it back, but «Archived» shows how many have news

Notifications

  • A direct message notifies everyone else in it.
  • In a channel, only mentions notify.
  • You're never notified of your own messages, or of conversations you muted.
  • These notifications arrive in the bell, with Spanish titles: «Nuevo mensaje directo» and «Te han mencionado en #canal». See How notifications work.

Good to know

  • The chat needs no permission or add-on: everyone with access to the account can use it.
  • History doesn't expire.
  • Messages arrive in real time. If your connection drops, the chat catches up when it's back; after several failed attempts it stops trying, and reloading the page reconnects it.
  • Filmo support staff with access to your account are in «#general» and appear with the «FILMO Support» badge. They can join any channel, including private ones, without notice, and only show in its member list once they write.
  • An automation can post in a channel as «Workflows», but not in an archived one.
