Create a project

Start a project with a name, dates and client before the first order. It starts in Draft, with its own number.

People with the «Projects» permission in edit mode. With view mode you can open projects but not change them.

In a , the project is created in the parent account.

Create the project as soon as a job has more than one part, ideally before the first order, so every order, quote and invoice lands in the same place. Let's set up the Landmark Venues wedding.

Create the wedding project

Open the dialog In «Projects», click «Create project».
Name it Type “Landmark Venues wedding 2026”. The name needs at least three characters.
Set the dates «Start date» and «End date» start at today and seven days from today. Pick the wedding weekend. The end can be the same day as the start, never earlier.
Classify it Optionally, choose a , such as “Event”, and a «Color». Use for the client's own reference, such as their purchase order number.
Add the client Choose Landmark Venues in «Client». Add anyone else involved, such as the wedding planner, in , one by one or several at once with «Add Multiple».
Add tags Choose them in «Tags», or type a new name to create one.
Save Click «Save». «Discard» closes the dialog without creating anything.

The «Create project» window filled in: «Name» “Landmark Venues wedding 2026”, «Start date» 10/23/2026 and «End date» 10/26/2026, «Project type» “Wedding” with its pink color selected, an empty «External reference», Landmark Venues LLC as «Client» with the «Primary» badge, «Add Multiple» and «Add» for additional contacts, and the «Tags» search on the right with «No tags selected yet». — Tags are only chosen here, on the right of the window.

Warning: Choose the tags now. The project page has no tag editor, so you can't add or change them once the project exists.

Filmo creates the project in «Draft», gives it its number, such as 2026-0001, and opens it. If you didn't pick a color, it's blue. The external reference and the other details can be changed later on the project.

The new project's page: the name “Landmark Venues wedding 2026” with its number #2026-0005, the tabs from «General» to «Activity history», and the «General information» card with «Project type» “Wedding”, «Status» «Draft», the start and end dates and Landmark Venues LLC under «Contacts». — A new project starts in «Draft» and gets its number.

What happens next

Complete the project: the client's contact person, the location, the . See Edit a project's details, contacts and location.
Add the ceremony and the rehearsal dinner as orders. See Add an order to a project.
The project appears in the «Calendar» on its dates while it's in «Draft», «Quoted», «Confirmed» or «In progress».

From the quick actions

«Create project» in the quick actions opens the same dialog from anywhere in Filmo.

From an order

In the order editor, the project search lets you create a project. It opens the same dialog, and the new project is chosen for the order. See Create an order.

From a CRM opportunity

An opportunity without a project offers «Create project». It opens the projects list with an empty dialog: nothing from the opportunity is filled in, and the new project isn't linked to it. Once you've saved the project, go back to the opportunity and link it with «Link Project».

From a file, the API, NEO or a workflow

From the Campus mobile app

In Campus accounts, app users can create projects too. Those start in «In progress» instead of «Draft».

If you see an error

Message	What to do
Name must be at least 3 characters	Make the name longer.
Error creating project	Read the details under the message and try again. It can also happen if someone else created a project at the same moment.
A message in Spanish saying the selected project type doesn't exist	The type was deleted. Choose another one.
