Delete an item
Delete an item from the ⋯ menu of its page. Its units, stock and history go with it; orders, quotes and invoices keep their lines.
People with the «Inventory» permission in edit mode. With view mode you can open items but not change them.
Deleting an item removes it from your inventory for good, with its units, its stock and their history. Use it for items created by mistake or that you'll never use again. If you only want to stop renting it, hide it instead.
Before you start
- Check the item's «Order history» tab, so you know which jobs it was on.
- Filmo won't delete an item that's still in use: an accessory of other items, of a unit, part of a kit, on an order that hasn't come back, or with an active subrental. See Why can't I delete an item?.
Delete the item
Say you created a second “Chiavari chair” by mistake. Let's delete the duplicate.
- Open the item In «Inventory» → «Items», click the duplicate chair.
- Open the menu Click «⋯» in the header and choose «Delete item».
- Read the summary “Delete complete item?” warns that it can't be undone and lists what else will be deleted: units, notes, files and tasks.
- Confirm Click «Delete item».
Filmo shows “Item deleted successfully” with what it deleted and takes you back to the list.
What's deleted and what stays
| Deleted with the item | Stays |
|---|---|
| Its units and its bulk stock, with their stock entries | The orders, quotes and invoices it was on |
| Its QR codes and its suppliers | The tags, which are only taken off the item |
| Its place in import templates | The contents its units carried, which become free |
| Its notes, files and tasks | The other items that had it as an alternative |
What orders, quotes and invoices show afterwards
Orders, quotes and invoices keep their lines, but those lines are no longer linked to the item's page. What each one still shows depends on where the line lives:
| Where | What the line shows |
|---|---|
| The order | Its quantity, dates and price, but not the item's name or picture: the line reads “Item #” followed by a short code |
| Quotes, invoices and other documents already created | Everything as it was, name and price included, because each document keeps its own copy of its lines |
| A document you create from that order afterwards | The line is named “Producto sin nombre” (shown in Spanish) |
Warning: Deleting can't be undone. Create the documents you still need from the item's orders first, and if you may need its history, hide the item instead.
Other ways to do it
Delete several items
Select them in «All items» and choose «Bulk actions» → «Delete». Each item goes through the same checks, and Filmo deletes the ones that pass. See Edit several items at once.
Delete one unit or a kit
- A single unit: «⋯» → «Delete» on its page. See Deactivate a serial number.
- A kit: «⋯» → «Delete kit» on its page. The items inside it aren't deleted. See Create a kit.
