The Filmo desktop app for Mac and Windows

Filmo Desktop opens the same Filmo in its own window with tabs, on Mac and Windows: same data and permissions, nothing extra to pay.

Anyone with a Filmo account. The app has no plan or add-on of its own: inside it you see exactly what your permissions allow on the web.

When your day runs on Filmo, the browser fills up fast: the Landmark Venues wedding order in one tab, its quote in another, your email and a dozen websites in between. Sooner or later, the order you were editing gets lost among the tabs.

is Filmo's app for Mac and Windows. It opens the same Filmo you use in the browser, in its own window with tabs. It isn't a separate product: think of it as Filmo with its own place on your Dock or taskbar. Your account, your data, the screens and your permissions are the same, and what you do in the app shows up on the web and the other way round.

How the app works

What stays the same

  • The same account, data and screens as Filmo in the browser.
  • The same permissions. There's no plan, add-on or permission for the app, and nothing extra to pay.
  • Improvements arrive without reinstalling. The app loads Filmo from the web, so new screens and features reach it as soon as they're published.

What has its own version

The app itself, the window that holds Filmo, has its own . You see it in «Settings» → «Desktop App» and update it from there with «Check for updates», or by downloading the installer again. See Download and install the desktop app.

What changes in the desktop app

Almost nothing changes compared with the browser. The differences are about keeping your work in view:

SituationIn the browserIn the desktop app
You open a linked document or record from a record you save with «Save», such as a related document of an orderOpens in the same tab, with the unsaved-changes warning if needed.Opens in a new app tab, so the record you're editing stays open.
You use the sidebar menu, a link in the page or a create buttonSame tab.Same tab, with the usual warning if you have unsaved changes.
You have unsaved changesA warning when you leave the page. The same warning. Filmo also tells the app the tab has unsaved changes, so it can mark it.
You have unread notificationsThe bell shows the count. The bell shows it too, and Filmo sends the count to the app so it can show it on its icon.
«Download desktop app» in the user menuShown.Hidden.
The prompt to get the mobile app on the sign-in screensMay appear.Never appears.

Links open a new tab from these records: orders (including their delivery and return), quotes, invoices, proformas, credit notes, simplified invoices, simplified credit notes, contracts, purchase orders, supplier invoices, repair tickets and incidents. So while you edit the Landmark Venues order, opening its quote doesn't take you away from the order. A list never opens a new tab: there's nothing being edited to keep.

Note: How the app shows these signals, for example a dot on a tab or a number on its icon, depends on the version of the app you have installed.

Good to know

  • You sign in with email and password inside the app, as on the web. Google sign-in is finished in your browser. See Sign in to the desktop app with Google.
  • The app doesn't add anything you can't do in the browser, and you can switch between them whenever you like: both show the same data.
  • Installing an update closes and reopens the app. Save what you're editing first.
